We are delighted to invite you to the second round of the JUSTICE members-only webinar series titled ‘Career Conversations’. Over the course of this series you will have the opportunity to hear from a range of excellent speakers from the JUSTICE membership, sharing their various paths into and through the law.

On Thursday 1 October we welcome Sheriff Tony Kelly as our speaker.

Tony Kelly was a Solicitor in private practice for 27 years and a Solicitor Advocate in both the Court of Session and High Court of Justiciary before his appointment to the bench at Glasgow Sheriff Court in April 2017. During his time as a legal aid lawyer he was responsible for taking challenges on behalf of prisoners to the operation of polices such as ‘slopping out’ and their exclusion from voting. He represented the person convicted of involvement in the Lockerbie bombing at his second appeal which was abandoned when he was repatriated to Libya under compassionate release. He has acted in cases before the UK Supreme Court, the European Court of Human Rights and the International Criminal Court.

He was a First-Tier tribunal judge in the Social Entitlement and Immigration and Asylum Chambers. He is a visiting Professor in Human Rights in the University of Strathclyde and a Legal Member of the Parole Board for Scotland.
