JUSTICE invites applications for our 2019 summer internship, which is a paid position.
The successful applicant will work closely with our legal staff: conducting legal research; providing commentary on draft legislation; assisting with third party interventions; and supporting working parties of our membership exploring critical issues of law reform. The internship will provide the opportunity to develop research and drafting skills, to engage with litigation and law-making processes, and to be part of a small, friendly and committed staff.
Given the nature of our work, applications are sought from UK law graduates only. This includes people who expect to have completed a law degree or GDL or are a CILEX graduate by the time they start the internship. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in the challenges affecting the justice system – whether criminal, civil or administrative – and have an understanding of the UK’s constitutional and human rights framework. They should have excellent written and spoken communication skills.
The internship will take place from late July for three months, though we can be flexible with the start and end dates. The intern will be expected to work full time during this period and will be paid the London Living Wage (£1,600 per month).
To be considered for this internship please email a copy of your CV, and a brief covering letter to email@example.com. The covering letter should explain your interest in JUSTICE and interning, indicating relevant education, skills and experience, your availability for the internship and your future plans. Your CV should include the contact details of two referees.
Please note we will only accept applications from JUSTICE members. If you are not already a member, you can join here. Please include your membership number in your covering email, if you are not sure of your membership number please email firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain it. Please get in touch with us if you are not in a position to join JUSTICE for any reason.
Please mark your email with ‘SUMMER INTERNSHIP’ in the subject line.
Closing date: Thursday 2nd May 2019 at 5pm.
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 15th May 2019.
Please note we will contact all candidates on Thursday 9th May 2019 regarding the outcome of their application.
JUSTICE’s internship programme is governed by the principles of equal opportunity.
