NEWS
What is going on in the Scottish justice system?
How we work
We bring together experts from across the Scottish justice system to influence policy and deliver evidence-based reform. For example, we:
Influence legislation
Through events such as our Victims, Witness & Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill roundtable, attended by the Cabinet Secretary for Justice & other senior policymakers.
Convene expert working parties
To make realistic recommendations to change our justice system for the better, as with our Legal Assistance in the Police Station report, for example.
Host thought-leading events
To take stock of Scotland’s human rights record & explore emerging issues. Recent speakers include Helen Mountfield KC, Edward Fitzgerald CBE KC & Professor Kate O’Regan.
Intervene in legal cases
For example, we intervened in the Supreme Court case of Cadder on the rights of suspects to speak with and be represented by a lawyer in the police station.
