CELEBRATE HUMAN RIGHTS DAY WITH THE FACULTY OF ADVOCATES & JUSTICE SCOTLAND
The 2016 JUSTICE Human Rights Day Lecture will be given by the Lord Advocate, James Wolffe QC. His first speech as Lord Advocate will place the prosecution of crime in the context of a commitment to fundamental rights.
The Honourable Lady Scott will be chairing the event. There will be an opportunity for questions and closing remarks from Derek Ogg QC, chair of JUSTICE Scotland. A drinks reception will follow the lecture.

Speaker biographies
Lord Advocate, James Wolffe QC was appointed Lord Advocate in June 2016. He has been an advocate since 1992 and took silk in 2007. In 2014 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Advocates. He was First Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Ministers from 2002 to 2007 and served as an Advocate Depute from 2007 to 2010.
The Honourable Lady Scott, this year’s chair, was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Courts in November 2012. She was admitted as a solicitor in 1989 and to the Faculty of Advocates in 1991. She became a QC in 2002. Since 1991 she has been involved mainly in criminal defence work, specialising in appeals. From 1995 she regularly acted as senior counsel and from 1996 for a period as an ad hoc Advocate Depute. Lady Scott was a founder member of JUSTICE Scotland and was its first chair.
