JUSTICE was founded in 1957. It has been registered as a charity since in 1986 and is a company limited by guarantee, incorporated in June 1996.
JUSTICE’s work is overseen by its members – via a Council. It meets twice a year and its President is Helena Kennedy (Baroness Kennedy of the Shaws QC). The Council includes prominent members of the legal profession and academic world who are elected at JUSTICE’s Annual General Meeting, which all members are eligible to attend.
The Council appoints a sub-committee – the Executive Board – to govern the day-to-day running of the organisation. The Executive meets at least six times per year and is chaired by Professor Richard de Friend. Smaller sub-committees oversee finance and fundraising.
JUSTICE’s Director is Andrea Coomber who took up the role on 18 February 2013.
