JUSTICE Student Human Rights Network invites you to join us for an evening of conversation with David Anderson QC, Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation.

A Visiting Professor at King’s College London and member of Brick Court Chambers, David is described in this year’s legal journals as “a star individual” and “one of the best barristers around”.   Since starting his career in Washington and Brussels, he has appeared some 150 times in the CJEU, in cases ranging from Factortame to Kadi.  Briefs in Strasbourg have included Stubbings, McGonnell, Z, al-Adsani, Hatton and Demopoulos.  He has also appeared in the full range of English courts, and monitored media freedom for the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Turkey.

David was appointed as Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation in 2011.  In that role he conducts independent, security-cleared oversight of a range of UK counter-terrorism laws, including “TPIMs” under the Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act 2011.  He is currently conducting a review of deportation with assurances (as applied to abu Qatada), and must report to the  Prime Minister in May 2015 on the future shape of the law governing the interception of communications.

Zahra Al-Rikabi, Brick Court Chambers, a member of the JUSTICE Executive Board, will lead the discussion.

You too will have a chance to put your questions on life in the law, human rights and the justice system to David – come ready for a lively exchange!

JUSTICE is very grateful to DLA Piper for hosting this event.
