At a time of political uncertainty and radical reform of the justice system, how do we ensure access to justice?
As we contemplate withdrawal from the European Union, and the proposed repeal of the Human Rights Act 1998, the justice system is grappling with a range of other momentous changes: a £700m+ reform programme; the creation of the ‘Online Court’; Sir Michael Briggs’ review of the civil court system and Sir Brian Leveson’s review of efficiency in criminal proceedings. These changes come alongside huge increases in court and tribunal fees; and the increase in litigants in person, of McKenzie friends and pro bono schemes in response to cuts in legal aid.
Our panel will explore how we can work to deliver justice for all in the current economic and political climate.
