In this event, leading lawyers and campaigners will consider the key legal and policy issues around the Government’s legal aid cuts. Discussion will focus on the post-LASPO landscape, the residence test for civil legal aid, the prison law cuts and the operation of the exceptional case funding scheme.
The panellists will consider the lawfulness of the changes, the impact on disadvantaged groups and individuals, the human rights implications and the future of legal aid in the UK. They will also provide an insight into the litigation that is being brought to challenge the cuts. A further event in June 2014 will consider the reforms to judicial review.
