JUSTICE submits consultation response to the Ministry of Housing

JUSTICE submitted a response to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Call for Evidence for a Housing Court. The consultation sought input from respondents on the experience of people using court and tribunal services in property cases, whether there was a case for a sole housing court and how the system could best promote access to justice for users. Our submission focused on access to justice issues caused by concurrent jurisdiction and the efficacy of “cross-ticketing” of judges in response, positive mechanisms used by the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) to promote access to justice for litigants in person and highlighted further efforts that can be made to help those involved in property law disputes navigate the process.
