JUSTICE has appointed new Board and Council members, following their 65th Annual General Meeting on 19 October 2022.
Joining the Board of Trustees are I. Stephanie Boyce (Past President of the Law Society of England and Wales), Sara Mansoori KC (Matrix Chambers), Alice Smith (Trustee at Astriid), and Christian Weaver (Garden Court North Chambers).
Appointed to the charity’s Council are Les Allamby (Chief Commissioner of the Northern Irish Human Rights Commission), Almira Delibegović-Broome KC (King’s Counsel at the Scots Bar), Amanda Finlay CBE (Chair of Law for Life), Saima Hanif KC (3 Verulam Buildings), Alexandra Marks CBE (Recorder and Deputy High Court Judge, Retired Partner at Linklaters LLP) Kathleen Russ (Travers Smith LLP), and Maryann McMahon (former head of litigation for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions at Morgan Stanley).
JUSTICE has been at the forefront of law reform in the United Kingdom since 1957, aiming to promote a fairer and more accessible justice system for all, carrying out research and generating practical, workable recommendations for reform. JUSTICE has a history of scrutinising and challenging developments within the justice system that threaten the country’s adherence to human rights and the rule of law.
JUSTICE’s work is overseen by its members via its Council, overseen by Council President Baroness Kennedy of the Shaws KC and Vice Presidents, the Rt. Hon. Dominic Grieve KC, and Baroness Sarah Ludford. The JUSTICE Board governs the day-to-day running of the organisation. The JUSTICE Board meets at least four times per year and is chaired by Peter Binning. Smaller sub-committees oversee finance and fundraising.
JUSTICE’s Chief Executive, Fiona Rutherford, said:
“As a UK-wide charity, it is vital that our Governance and membership reflects the breadth of the justice sector and stretches across and represents the whole of the UK. We are thrilled to welcome our new Board and Council members, who bring with them experience from a variety of careers and jurisdictions, with expertise which will enrichen and inform our work. I look forward to working with them all.”
