JUSTICE statement on the far-right attacks and violence

“We are appalled by the ongoing riots and violence that are leaving communities devastated and people of colour understandably scared for themselves and their families whilst at home and at work.

“These shameful actions follow years of scapegoating and dehumanisation by prominent politicians and parts of the media, fanning the flames of racism and Islamophobia. We stand with all the racialised communities and legal advice and support providers who feel in danger.

“As a society, the vast majority of us want to live together in safety and peace, regardless of where we worship or the colour of our skin. This is our central strength and our democratic glue. We call for additional support to be provided to affected communities and for our leaders to recognise and tackle the rhetoric and conditions that led to this violence.”
